I had this appraiser in my house less than a month ago. He charged me $500 and only spent 15mins looking at my house. After that he talked about what he has done in his past life and what he likes to do in future. I was very polite and just listened even though I really wanted to go to work and he kept talking about 1.5 hrs.
Since he didn’t really look at my house in details, I was so worry and became very nervous once he told me that he is from Maryland and just recently came to San Diego. I tried to let him know that the market in this area is very different from the east coast. Unfortunately, he did not use the recent home sales data in my own sub-division and appraised my house $70k less than the market value. I ended up having another appraiser come to my property and paid $400 to re-do his job correctly.
I would definitely recommend as soon as you hear his name try to cancel your loan application or just ask for another company. I wish I would have read the previous comments about this appraiser.
