This appraiser was used by a bank prior to our purchase of a HUD house. The appraisal he submitted cost my husband and me an extra $600 in the closing process. First, he submitted the appraisal on an FHA loan without the water being on, which is a requirement by FHA for confirmation of no plumbing issues. Next, he used his personal sinus issues as a reason to require a mold inspection. The amount of mold in that house was minimal enough to be handled by the homeowner and not hired out. His sinuses were acting up because of the outside weather, since it had been raining for a couple of days and should not have been the reasoning behind his comments that he couldn't stand to be in the basement because of the mold smell.
