The bank I was refinancing with hired this woman to appraise my home. Because of Covid, the refinance got delayed for a year. After hundreds of hours of work by the bank, we were 5 days away from signing papers and closing. Then comes Christi to appraise. She spent a grand total of about 10 minutes or so on the property. She grossly undervalued the home, and didn't pay close attention to details. How can you in ten minutes??? I was in the middle of replacing all of the flooring so I had moved all my stuff out and was sleeping on a couch. My flooring got delayed because I've been traveling to Chicago every week to take care of my mother who has stage 4 cancer, so I have not been home much. It's an appraisers job to get accurate information and ask questions before they mark the status of a home, such as whether I'm living there and why it appears that I haven't been around much..... because my mother is sick. She asked none of these questions. So not only did Christi undervalue the property, but she also marked it "vacant" because everything was moved out for new flooring and I had been away for a while caring for my mother. All the utilities were on and the couch I was sleeping on was in there. The bank called a few days later and the refinance that was in the works for over a year, had to be thrown away because of this woman's amazing 10 minute appraisal that I paid 500 dollars for. I basically paid her to completely sabotoge and destroy my refinance. I had a super low rate which is now forever gone because they have already gone up significantly. I'll never hire this woman to appraise any property of mine ever again. It was the worst display of incompetence I've ever seen in my life. How can anyone do a good job spending about ten minutes at a home??? In my opinion, that's called "she's there to make the money and doesn't care". It is my opinion that if you want to pay 500 dollars for an appraisal and have your home devalued and marked incorrectly for underwriting, tying their hands, and having your refinance completely nuked and destroyed by this woman's ten minutes of work, completely and carelessly negating hundreds of hours of work by your bank and costing you a low rate, then you should hire this woman. In my opinion, with the job she did, I may as well have paid her 500 dollars to bring a torch and set fire to my refinance papers right in front of me and throw them on the fire pit. To top it all off, I had emailed her a complaint. She proceeded to send me a response that seemed as long as a novel, trying to arrogantly lecture me. If you ask me if you should hire this woman? I'd say you should tell her to exit your property if she shows up. That's my opinion and feedback from my first hand experience.
